Austenitic Alloys

Austenitic Alloys are classified into the 200 and 300 series and contain between 16% and 30% chromium and 2% and 20% nickel for improved surface quality, formability, corrosion and wear resistance. Heat treatment cannot be used to harden austenitic alloys. Due to their superior formability and corrosion resistance, these steels are the most widely used grades of stainless steel. In their annealed condition, all austenitic steels are nonmagnetic. Certain austenitics are slightly magnetic when cold worked, depending on their composition. Austenitics are used in a variety of industrial applications, including automobile trim, cookware, food and beverage equipment, and processing equipment.
