Duplex stainless steels are so named due to their two-phase microstructure, which consists of stainless steel grains that are 50% austenitic and 50% ferritic. This type of steel has a number of advantages and is frequently preferred over conventional ferritic or austenitic stainless steels due to its increased strength – it is roughly twice as strong as these metals. Duplex stainless steels' increased yield strength enables the creation of thinner sections, resulting in significant weight savings.
