Alloy 59 consumables provide a strong, tough Nb-free weld metal for dissimilar welds in superaustenitic and superduplex stainless steels, as well as their combinations with nickel base alloys. Certain authorities have prohibited or discontinued the use of 625 type consumables in such applications due to the possibility of harmful Nb-rich precipitates forming in diluted or partially mixed regions near the fusion boundary. Alloy C276 may be a more cost-effective alternative depending on the properties required in this situation.
