A lot of different tests show that after a few years, the 926 alloy doesn't get pitting or crevice corrosion. This is because the slurry of the limestone FGD system is heated to 50–68 °C and has a pH of 5–6. 926 also has good corrosion resistance in other chemical media, like sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acid gas, sea water, salt, organic acids, and acid gas.
An alloy called Alloy 926 is a super-austenitic molybdenum stainless steel that is very resistant to a lot of corrosive environments. Molybdenum and nitrogen in its composition make it more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion. Copper makes sulfuric acid resistant, and nitrogen makes it stronger.
