Duplex stainless steels get their name from their two-phase microstructure, which is composed of grains of stainless steel that are 50% austenitic and 50% ferritic. Super Duplex stainless steel has all of the same benefits as its counterpart, with the exception that it contains a higher proportion of chromium and molybdenum, which confers increased corrosion resistance. The oil and gas industry frequently uses super duplex stainless steel in heat exchanges, offshore platforms, chemical processing equipment, boilers, and pressure vessels.
